Pendleton, Hermiston receive federal grants for trees
PENDLETON — The cities of Pendleton and Hermiston each received a sizable grant from the U.S. Forest Service for the health and maintenance of trees to provide community benefits.
The Pendleton Parks and Recreation Department received $2 million dollars for the Pendleton Urban Forestry Program, and the city of Hermiston received $1 million dollars for urban and community forest health and the biodiversity for long-term resilience projects, according to a press release Tuesday, Sept. 19, from the Forest Service.

Pendleton Parks and Recreation awarded $220,000 grant for after-school program
PENDLETON — Pendleton Parks and Recreation Department announced that it has received a $220,000 state Youth Promise grant to support its after-school program.
The Youth Community Investment Grants, including the Youth Promise initiative, are distributed through the Oregon Department of Education on behalf of the Youth Development Division, according to a press release from the city.
The grants fund programs that serve youths 6-24 years old at risk of disengaging from school or work, and Pendleton was selected for the Youth Development Division Community I Investment Grant for the Greater Eastern Oregon Region.
